International University Transfer Programme in Business

(One Plus Two Model)

Gateway Graduate School (GGS) offers the NCC Education’s Level 4 Diploma in Business as a qualification equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme in Business and related fields. The Diploma in Business is also available as an accelerated programme for students completing their Advanced Level studies at Gateway Colleges and other schools in Sri Lanka. The Level 4 Diploma in Business comprises 120 Credits. It is developed as per the Regulated Qualifications Framework (RQF) of UK and is regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (OFQUAL) in England. As such, it is internationally recognised as equivalent to the first year of an undergraduate degree programme in subjects related to Business.

At GGS, we have entered into direct articulation arrangements with a select group of prestigious universities in Australia and Malaysia to enable our students to use the Level 4 Diploma in Business as an entry qualification to enter directly the second year of degree studies. These include the University of Adelaide (a Group of Eight university) and Deakin University (a university with an AACSB accredited Business School) in Australia and the University of Nottingham (a Russell Group university in the UK) through its Malaysia Campus. Students will also have the option of progressing onto a number of other universities in Australia, UK and Ireland with whom NCC Education has direct progression agreements (http://www.nccedu.com/become-a-student/university-progression/).

Alternatively, after the successful completion of the Level 4 Diploma in Business, students can pursue and complete their full degree studies under two years in Sri Lanka to earn a BA (Hons) Business Management degree from Teesside University.* This option will enable our students to earn a reputed international degree, developed to foster future business leaders and entrepreneurs, at affordable fees in Sri Lanka.


Duration of The Programme and Intakes

The standard duration to earn the Diploma in Business is one year. However, it can also be offered as an accelerated programme under a period of nine (9) months to cohorts of students.
There will be two intakes every year: January and September

The Units (Modules) Offered

The units (modules) offered in the Diploma in Business provide a comprehensive framework of knowledge, understanding and skills in both traditional and contemporary subjects related to Business and Management:

1: Business Mathematics
15 Credits
This unit enables students to develop skills pertaining to a range of mathematical and statistical techniques and concepts as applicable to different business scenarios.
2: Communications for Business
15 Credits
Through this unit students will be able to learn different types of business communication techniques and approaches (written, oral and non-verbal).
3: e-Business
15 Credits
This unit explores the various concepts and models of e-Business, including the strategies and planning processes concerning business-to-consumer and business-to-business aspects of e-Business.
4: Essentials of Management
15 Credits
This unit provides a strong foundation in the essentials of management; it particularly covers the function of management, the management decision-making process, management and organisational strategies, management’s influence on individual and group performance as well as the theories of leadership and control.
5: Fundamentals of Economics
15 Credits
This unit will develop an understanding of the fundamentals of microeconomics and macroeconomics to aid the process of business decision-making.
6: Introduction to Finance
15 Credits
Through this unit students will be able to develop a fundamental understanding of the accounting processes within business organisations; they will also acquire the basic skills required for carrying out financial analysis to support business decision-making.
7: Principles of Marketing
15 Credits
This unit enables students to develop an understanding of the key concepts and principles of marketing that can be used as strategic and operational tools to meet organizational goals and objectives in dynamic business environments.
8: Understanding Business Organisations
15 Credits
Through this unit students will get the opportunity to evaluate various types of organization and the different forms of organizational structure; they will also examine and assess the key concepts of organizational change, communication processes within organizations, monitoring of organizational performance and the role of IT systems on the performance and structure of an organization.

Entry Requirements

Candidates must meet one of the following requirements:

  • A minimum of one Advanced Level subject plus a minimum of grades C for the subjects of Mathematics and English at OLs/IGCSEs.
  • OR
  • The NCC Level 3 International Foundation Diploma in Higher Education Studies offered by Gateway Graduate School

Students who earn their degree qualifications from the University of Nottingham Malaysia Campus (UNMC) receive the same certificate as those who complete their studies in the UK.

* In addition to the academic conditions, students may be required by the above universities to produce evidence of their English language proficiency.

Career Opportunities

The NCC Level 4 Diploma in Business is an accredited qualification on its own. It has been developed as per the National Occupational Standards (NOS) of the UK and as such has a very strong vocational emphasis in terms of its learning outcomes. Students who successfully complete the programme can use it to enhance their professional portfolio and ensure that they present it as an additional qualification to their potential employers in Sri Lanka and abroad.

The Gateway organisation is well-connected with the industry and we have provided internship opportunities to our students in the past at leading firms in Sri Lanka such as the Hatton National Bank. We can support you to undertake a short internship with one of the leading companies in Sri Lanka as an extension of your Level 4 Diploma in Business studies. This provision will support you in developing your employment prospects when you go abroad for further studies.

It must be noted that internships cannot be guaranteed as they are always competitive. The final decision on the selection of interns will be taken by the employers. As such, students are encouraged to be proactive in seeking and obtaining their own placement and show flexibility with their target companies. If you choose to undertake an internship you will be provided with an internship tutor. These members of staff are there to provide support and guidance if you are thinking about this option.

Recognition

The NCC Level 4 Diploma in Business is regulated by the Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation (OFQUAL) in the UK. As such, it will enable those who have successfully completed the qualification to transfer to various universities across the world with exemptions equivalent to the first year’s degree studies.
